Laura Loves…Kalm Kitchen

Knowing how vital good catering is to a successful event, we were thrilled to add Kalm Kitchen as a catering partner to Laura Loves, our covetable black book that’s accessible by our lucky couples.

In fact, we don’t like calling them wedding caterers because they’re so much more than that. They’re experts in their field – every event is unique, every client is treasured and every wedding day is a personal, beautiful and utterly delicious feast for all the senses.

So, we thought we’d catch up with Jen Middlehurst, director of Kalm Kitchen to find out a little bit more about her business, her work and her thoughts on Fetcham Park…

 Tell us a little bit about Kalm Kitchen – how long have you been catering for weddings? What’s your background? How would you sum up your style?

We launched Kalm Kitchen in 2006 and our philosophy is that exquisite food and attention to detail are at the heart of every successful event. We create perfectly styled and executed occasions throughout London and the South East. Using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, our seasonal menus are created to complement the occasion and clients’ personal preferences.

We adore beautifully presented food that’s fun, theatrical and memorable and our offering is far from the blandly traditional expectations that many people have about mass-catered food. We really look to inject the couple’s personality into their food, whether that’s the way in which it’s served, the styling details that we add to the day or any one of hundreds of other details we create for our clients.

What did you think of Fetcham Park the first time you saw it?

The first time I laid my eyes on Fetcham Park I just thought ‘wow’! It was a great sense of surprise, a real hidden gem. It’s so luxurious, versatile in what it can offer couples, and Laura’s warmth and passion comes across so clearly you can’t help but fall in love with her and the house!

Have you got a favourite part of Fetcham?

I would have to say my favourite part of Fetcham is the Salon. The chandeliers, the opulence of the gold leaf adorned walls  – it truly has the wow factor! I also love the view from the Shell Room looking out onto the fountains, especially when lit up at night.

What food and drink suits Fetcham Park?

At Fetcham you really can go from one extreme to the other; we have been lucky enough to cater for numerous weddings at Fetcham with the couples choosing a whole range of options. For a formal celebration you can opt for elegant fine dining – the rooms are perfectly suited to this type of celebration with tables dressed to perfection and extra finishing touches such as coloured glassware and an abundance of opulent blooms.

On the other hand, we have also catered for more rustic affairs with a focus on simple, delicious food – you could opt for sharing board starters such as mezze and family service main courses such as seasonal pies with fresh seasonal vegetables. A fun catering option can tone down the grandeur of the venue if you are hosting a more informal affair.

Any top tips for brides considering their wedding catering?

When selecting a catering company, you’re looking for excellent food, service and the ability to work with the enormity of the detail involved in your day. There are certain key factors that you should discuss when meeting your caterer for the first time:

1. Firstly, check the caterer’s availablity on your date you and find out what the booking and payment process is as no-one wants a sudden shock or unexpected bill just before their wedding. We suggest that you ideally start researching and meeting with caterers at least 9 months before your wedding.

2. When selecting your caterer, you are looking for stunning presentation paired with sensational taste. It’s also important that your caterer has professional, commercial facilities and a team of talented individuals to serve your guests on the day.

3. Check the caterer offers a tasting experience but be conscious that popular caterers will have limited availability throughout the summer season. A tasting will allow you to fully understand the quality, style and presentation of their food and gives you the opportunity to explore how your own ideas can be worked into their existing menus.

It is important to remember the importance a caterer plays in your day. At Kalm Kitchen we take great care to ensure that every element of décor – including the flowers, tablecentres and candles look perfect next to our tableware, we go above and beyond to ensure a couples vision is achieved on the day. It’s vital your caterer takes the care and time needed to achieve this.
